COM’s Academic Advisor Wins Excellence Award

The Communications Department's Academic Advisor, Penny Roebuck-White, was the recipient of the CSUDH 2018 Staff Awards of Excellence Student Success Award.

At the awards ceremony on Oct. 23, 2018, the university honored her with a $1,000 check and engraved plaque. Nominated by Communications Department Chair Dr. Nancy Cheever, her colleagues helped her win the award by writing letters of support for her nomination.

Among other laudable comments, faculty said her advising expertise is "indispensable to the department" and "her student advising is accessible, accurate and professional and sets students on a successful path toward graduation."

"Penny brings a sense of calm to even the most stressful of days, for both faculty and students," wrote Assistant Professor Dr. Ryan Bowles-Eagle. "As an advisor, she combines a wealth of knowledge about the inner-workings of the university with immense compassion and care for her students."
